Moving Forward Together

Dear Friends,

Skip

How many times have you said I cannot believe we are already at the end of the year? Have you been planning your year-end tax deductions? With so many options available, we hope you will consider the DuPage Care Center Foundation as your charity of choice.

In the last 18 months, we have learned it is the outpouring of appreciation and support from the business community and individual donors that have made the difference at the Care Center. A little bit of gratitude goes a long way.

Meet Skip, former Resident Council President. You can call him Mr. Congeniality. He feels that the Recreation Therapy Program is crucial in keeping the residents engaged, stimulated and active. Skip said, “During our time in quarantine we had to stay in our rooms (18 months). The Rec Team was so helpful and creative by bringing games, activities, and arts & crafts to our room regularly. They worked so hard with the residents, and I noticed. Bravo to them and the medical staff.” Skip, who is always thinking about his Care Center friends, decided this year (2021) to make a special request to his family and friends. He asked that in lieu of presents this year to make a gift donation in his name. Over $700 has been donated! What a thoughtful, generous, and creative idea!  Thank you Skip.

Your Generosity Has an Impact!

Financial gifts we received this year from our stakeholders:

  • Financially support the Recreation Therapy Program, which provides entertainment, activities, celebrations and programs to keep residents active. The program’s goal is to prevent depression which tends to be prevalent in the elderly
  • Purchased pre-set programmed radios for residents in their Music Therapy Program which stimulated memory recall and speech communication
  • Provide supplies for Art Therapy that sparks resident creativity, reduces stress and stimulates cognitive and motor skills
  • Secured funding to begin the development of two Palliative Rooms to support families and residents during a critical time in their lives. The goal is to build two more Palliative Rooms within the next several years.
  • Provide personal supplies for residents with no financial resources
  • Support various programs and resident services

Rosemary, a long-term resident, credits the Recreation Therapy Department, for keeping her and her Care Center friends happy. “It’s the extra things that we get to engage in that keeps us active. I know other care facilities do not have the kind of programs that the Care Center has. Miriam, Recreation Therapy Aid, is so caring. She makes everything fun and she makes me smile.”

Only four percent (4%) of the DP Care Center’s operating budget comes from DuPage County Government! Additional limited funding is from Medicare and Medicaid with the Care Center Foundation creating fundraising initiatives for supplemental funds. Whether you make an annual donation or are a GEM Patron, we are grateful that you have chosen the DuPage Care Center as your charity of choice. Remember your tax-deductible charitable donation stays right here, in your community, at the DuPage Care Center.

Thank you for your consideration and all that you do.

With Gratitude,

Michelle Z. Thorsell
