Each year, the DuPage Care Center Foundation has the opportunity to recognize one of our amazing VolunTeens for their service by awarding them the VolunTeen Scholarship Award. This year, however, we were able to honor not just one, but two. The recipients of this year’s VolunTeen Scholarship Award are Rabia Khan and Tara Romero.
Rabia (University of Illinois Chicago, ’24) has served at the Care Center since 2019. As a volunteer, she has provided assistance with staff in the hair salon, transporting residents to activities, and, during COVID, helped families and visitors complete health screenings.
Tara (Oswego High School, ’22) will be a freshman at University of Aurora (Class of 2026) this fall, pursuing a degree in Health Science/Pre-med. She began volunteering at the Care Center in 2018 and served areas such as Physical Therapy, clerical work in finance, and, during COVID, shopping for residents.
We are so grateful for the time, energy, and care that Rabia, Tara, and all of our volunteers have contributed to the Care Center’s residents!
The DPCC Foundation’s VolunTeen Scholarship is open to current high school seniors who have been active in the DPCC VolunTeen program, have logged 50+ volunteer hours at DPCC, and who have followed the guidelines of the VolunTeen Contract.
