The DuPage Care Center Foundation presented John Darrah and Sahari Garcia with the Volunteen Scholarship for their volunteer service to the Care Center residents and staff on Wednesday, August 12.
“I’d like to extend my gratitude to the DuPage Care Center for giving me the opportunity to help my community. I volunteered at the Care Center because my Grandfather received treatment there before he passed away. I recall visiting him when I was younger and I wanted to help” said John.
A 2020 graduate from Glenbard North High School John will be attending University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign majoring in engineering physics.
“I’ve learned many things that people my age don’t usually don’t get to experience. Spending time with the residents opened my eyes to a vibrant new community that I wasn’t aware of. I have a newfound appreciation for all the effort and care of the faculty, staff and volunteers” said Sahari.
Sahari, who graduated from St. Francis High School this spring, will be attending the Parsons School of Design at The New School majoring in Communications Design.
The DPCCF Volunteen Scholarship Program began in 2005 and offers students the opportunity to gain experience in leadership; social interaction with multigenerational groups and development. This program also assists in fulfilling the high school’s community service required hours’ students need prior to graduation.
